Is my RAM faulty?

Today morning I started up my PC and after around 1/2 hr of usage it abruptly shut down itself and a BSOD showed up for just about 1 sec and then it restarted. It happened again after about 20 min of usage and this time I noticed something like MEMORY_MANAGEMENT or something similar as the title of the BSOD.

I took it as a problem with my RAM and ran Windows Memory Diagnostic tools which told me that there is indeed some problem with my memory. So I ran memetest86+ with both RAM sticks and was greeted with countless errors. Next, I removed one stick of RAM and reran memtest86+ and and no error showed up. So I replaced the stick with the other one and ran the test again and as I suspected it was the one causing the errors.

What conclusion should I draw from it? Is the RAM faulty?

Yes, it indeed is faulty. If its within warranty period then get it RMA'd.

Unfortunately it's not under warranty. I don't know why or how it went bad suddenly after providing solid performance for more than 3 yrs? Any idea how much a new stick will cost me? I heard that the prices have increased.

4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz will cost 2.5k upwards depending on which model you go for. As you
ll be using this new ram together with one of your old RAM, you should get the RAM which has the same timing. Post a screenshot of CPU-Z with memory tab open.

choose corsair rams. it offers 10 years of warranty(check before buying!). corsair rma is too good too.

^^I have exactly the same ram but unfortunately I've lost my bill and now I've shifted to another state as well. So I guess I can no more avail my warranty.

try your luck. first email corsair and tell them that you lost your bill since you shifted from one state to another and see what their reply is. i think you might be able to rma.

On need to contact them, just in to the service center. they won't ask for the bill. There companies keep track of warranty period from the date of manufactur instead of date of sale. Visit the local service center. Check corsair's website for a list of service centers.

Oh kay. BTW suppose I wanna upgrade my RAM in the future, which I definitely will, how can I tell whether a given RAM module will be compatible with my older ones? What do I need to look for exactly?

frequency and cas latency.
