Internet problem

Hai Everyone!!
I'm Naveen,student in computer science..I'm new here,though a reader of DIGIT since 15 months to be exact.I got a 256kbps BSNL broadband on my HP Pavillion (dv 6703tx).Everything went fine till one day when all my torrents went red.I thought it's a problem with torrent software and changed it.But I found many applications not working like avast update,picasa web albums login,etc..Even I couldn't install applications like 'Google chrome', 'yahoo messenger 9.0' since they use some kind of internet installation. But I could connect to internet and download files normally and so.I don't even understand with what the problem is related to-my laptop or my internet connection or me.Please Help me in solving this.

Scan with the following softwares:

*www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
*www.superantispyware.com/download.html
*www.avira.com/en/download/index.html

Update them to latest version and go for full scan

Is your firewall or antivirus blocking these software? Check your exceptions list. Check for spyware using those links by mrintech. If problem persists, post a HijackThis log here. Also, what firewall do you use?

This might not be a local problem at all! Ask your ISP or your friends if they are facing problems.
