Ending the computer industry’s most bitter legal war, the chip maker Intel agreed on Thursday to pay a rival, Advanced Micro Devices, $1.25 billion to settle antitrust and patent disputes.

So amd finally wins a small battle against the mighty intel & its abusive Anti-competitive practices

they will not get out of financial trouble anytime soon... cuz there debt is 3.2 billion... much more then what they are getting paid by intel.. but it'll help them survive 2010

good good. what Intel did was wrong and they deserved the result.

Well they hard tried to monopolize AMD out of the EU markets. They asked big retailers to stock only Intel and paid them. Also asked branded computer companies to install Intel..and ready to pay money.

It all blew out in the open -- and Intel is paying.

The amount paid by the Intel is nothing to compare to what AMD lost it market to its unethical practices.. Let me give you one example, although the GOVT. of India 's DGST contracts order specified for the procurement of PCS of X86 of 32 bit & 64 bit family many GOVT DEPT and PSU such as BSNL are interpreting as 'Intel' based computers, so AMD based computers although fulfilled the technical specification and price advantages(in a GOVT based unit it is more important) AMD based suppliers are kicked out uncerminously from the TENDER process .. SO it loses go to billions in a single country alone...Unlike in EU The MRTP commission is toothless tiger in India

totally agree with u on that... but they at least got something out of it...which was looking increasingly unlikely...
intel has abused its position at the top a lot with its corrupt practices..
one other example is during athlon 64 & pentium d time in 2004-05... when amd was the best still OEM's used to sell mostly intel... & amd could not gain market share & lost out on huge profits..
