Right off the assembly line
I am planning to publish a website but I am not able to figure out any free web hosting service. Recently, I came across a site webhost.com that is providing 50 MB space with 1.5 GB Data transfer. But I don't know, is it enough space for a website. Please help me in this matter. Also Plese tell me about any free domain name provider. This is basically a technical website with some downloads of software created by me, wallpapers, images, a very little amount of online music.

it is upon u to decide how much space u r going to require, *www.tripod.com also provide free hosting with 1GB data transfer and 20 MB space. But i dont think that any free webhosting service wil let u store online music on their servers for public use. I dont know anything about Geocities offers, but it is also free webhosting service.

Also *www.frihost.com offers 10GB data transfer and 250MB disk space, but their registration are closed for now.

50MB should be more than enough for an average site, at least in the beginning. Go for it and build a site. You will realise its far more than what you need ;) unless you provide lots of downloadable stuff

Oh well, if its for a forum with many sections/rooms, chat , etc, then wht kinda size shud one be looking for. Which r the common sites which offer them[like getting a .com or .net website, free ones]?

Number of rooms in a forum may not make too much difference. Its the number of visitors and regualr posts that will count.

You will hardly get a free .com or .net unless of course you buy a hosting package and get a free domain along with it. I give hosting packages that way ;) Its pretty convenient for me too.

But free domains is a mere eye-wash. There is nothing like free. Costs are covered at one place or the other somehow.

Try the below mentioned forum. This will help you...

For your convinience, Try www.95mb.com
As the site name says, it gives you 95 MB of space and unlimited bandwidth. The best thing about this host is that there are no advertisements on you site and the speed is awsome. I already have hosted my site on the server.

Are there any more free hosting sites which offer more space? Also if one were to setup a website is the design and stuff already available or it requires a web designer to develop it?

There are a few more good hosting sites. One of them is www.sphosting.com. Another is www.web1000.com
Although there are many more, I am giving special emphasis on these because they dont force your sites with their advertisements. Although sphosting gives you good features except FTP, it is a bit on the slower side. In Web1000, you can get huge lots of domain extension. Try them...
