Posted to the correct forum. I meant to ask a few questions here:
---------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I'm into audio production, and therefore on the lookout for a large display.

My vendor in Calcutta is offering me an Acer 19-inch widescreen display
for Rs. 12,500. But I want to go for a 20" or more, preferably a 22".

He's also offering me a viewsonic 22" for Rs. 26,000. But that is turning
out to be a bit costly. My budget is Rs. 20,000.

My sole criteria is having lots of screen space.I want to know the following:

1. Does a widescreen 19" (or any inch for that matter) offer more desktop
space than a normal 19" screen?

2. What is the advantage of widescreen (if any)?

3. Does anyone know the approximated costs of the following?

- Samsung 22/21/20-inch TFT
- LG 22/21/20-inch TFT

4. Finally, what is the biggest TFT screen I can get for 20,000?

Figures would be really helpful, as I don't want to buy the wrong product
or get rooked.

Thanks in advance.

Dunno abt 22" but I recently purchased one 19" Viewsonic one from M.D. Computers, G.C. Avenue. It cost me Rs. 11648 including VAT. (i.e. Rs.11200+VAT). U can chk this URL for some widescreen advantages - *www.newegg.com/ProductSort/CategoryIntelligenceArticle.asp?articleId=54

Somewhere I read that it is more cost effective for manufacturers - they can cut more widescreen pieces from their LCD slab than normal ones. Also, it is supposedly easier to look sideways than to look up-down.

Get two 740N (Samsung) which is 17" and set them up in dual-monitor setup. Should be costing ~20K. Also, they can be like a widescreen. Though do a bit of research about dual monitor setups and check if your Graphics Card supports. Cheers!:)

No pain....No gain
I was also looking for a single large display (i work with MAYA) but finally settled for dual 19" widescreen LCD. Cost would be more than 20K but definitely worth it. So for now buy a single 19" lcd wide/normal of your choice then later get the second one.
And if you decide to buy dual 17" lcd then don'y buy 740N, instead get yourself 740B (both analog and digital option).

Buy the Viewsonic VX2025WM if you can find it. It should fit in your budget easily.
Can you tell me the approximate price for this model?

Also wondering, the cost difference between 17" and 19" is so less,
but the cost difference between 19" and 22" is drastic, nearly double!!

Anyone has some idea why this is so?

The 19" is the so called "current sweet spot" and 17" used to be so the prices are less. And also panel technology differ causing further increase in price. TN panel being the cheapest is used in most. The ViewSonic VX2025WM uses P-MVA Panel technology according to *www.pureoverclock.com/article641.html

I am not sure of the price. Just Google about Panel Technology for more info. Again I would simply suggest a dual monitor setup. Weigh you options. Good Luck man.
