Hp 2016tx gaming problem

I've been using this laptop for more than a month now. For all those who didn't know, it has a dedicated 1GB ATI Radeon 7670 graphic card and an inbuilt HD4000 onboard card

Problem is, 7670 is supposed to run most of the games in medium settings(as far as i've heard). Still, why do i get only around 20fps on most games even after changing the settings to low? First thing i did was to change the Catalyst Control Centre settings to "highest performance", still i only get 20fps. Or else its worse. I tried sleeping dogs,Prototype 2. COD MW3 worked fine somehow. Prototype 2 gives me less than 20fps after i've played for more than an hour. Am planning to invest in a cooling pad soon, but if the problem is the cooling, then it should atleast give me decent fps for some time.

FIFA 13 works fine because it is a highly demanding game. Mass effect 3 gave me FPS problems in between. Any ideas how to improve the performance?

I've kept it in HP recommended. But i put the application under HIGH PERFORMANCE under the Catalyst Control Centre. Isn't that enough?

there. thats the problem. that high performance in catalyst control center is for the graphics card only. for gaming you need some cpu power too. thats why you have to change the plan in power options to high performance also.

@blitz Please Do mention which cooling pad you are going to buy. My friend's(who owns 2016tx) in a dilemma which one to buy. He says the vents underneath do not suck in air but give out.

Thanks for the reply guys and for that link. But i tried everything given in the link. I changed the settings to High power settings. Things look slightly better now. I Think it's all down to the requirement of a cooling pad. PC meter shows the temperature near about 75C which rises more sometimes during gaming. Also i keep the laptop on the bed or on my lap. Which is probably another reason for the high temperature. Thanks again

I still haven't researched on the cooling pad much. I've just looked at a few on flipkart. My exams are going on and i won't buy for at least a month now. Even am in a dilemma coz this is my first laptop. I have never used a cooling pad before, so google might be your best mate. My vent seems fine, it's very cool just outside the vent. The heating is present on the rest of the laptop. Your friend should get his fan checked

@blitz He doesn't have any problem with his laptop. It's a week old one. What I meant was, laptops can be of two types- the vents underneath give out air or suck in air which later passes out through the fan vents. So if you buy a cooling pad that sucks out air while your laptop has vents underneath that too suck in air then overall your laptop overheats. So one has to buy the right cooling pad for their laptop. Even if the cooling pad fan is way faster that the laptop's own fan speed, it can overheat instead of cooling.

Anyways. No hurry. When you buy could you just PM what you have bought :)

dont buy a cooling pad. it wont help. control the gfx card using msi afterburner. set cpu to 80%. and then set the coolsense to coolest mode. and trust me you will be fine.

@blitz
Is there any other problem with the laptop. Because I'm also considering it. Give me your feedback.

Damn, i read this too late. Just ordered a cooling pad 2 days back. Anyway, i downloaded MSI afterburner. It's too technical for me to understand. I don't see any CPU settings. Just voltage overclocking and memory and core overclocking. And HP coolsense has only 2 options. On and OFF. How did you go about changing the level of coolsense?

msi afterburner is for gpu only. and the coolsense options will (obviously) appear after you turn it on. and cancel the order for the coolpad. it can be done.
