How to solve this win XP error

I am currently using win XP. I applied for a BSNL DataOne connection a month back. now the problem is that when i connect to the internet i get the following error

windows - system error

There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network.


My pc is not sharing this connection with ne other comp.

can neone tell me where does the problem lie i.e. within my pc or with their server or connection. And how to solve this problem

yes.... 2day i am getting this same worning on MY 512kbps MU account when ever i connect the MOdem to the Switch...

but what is the contact no.... the 16004241600 just registers ur complain... thats it... no option for talking to any one....

ya i talked to them. they told they have to reset something in my account which may solve the problem. god knows wat r they gonna reset.

It is a MU account... but i cant connect it as MU.... when ever i try to login with more that 1 PC... al the computers on the network (Windows XP SP2)... starts give worning about IP address conflict... but i had config thei IP defernt as directed in their website...

neither i can open their host site that is 192.168.1.1 even when some time it opens... every time i sing in & click any link... (Setup, advence..) it logs out....

try changing the last digit of your IP.

just release the ip by

ipconfig /release command

this will release the current ip

then

ipconfig /renew command

to get new ip which will be assigned by the DHCP.

Even though they use DHCP I could't understand why there is a conflict!!

listen they've given u an ip ...
either they have told u to put it in ur settings or they are giving it to u from their side using dhcp and mac address reservation.

the problem is they mustve give 2 ppl the same ip hence the conflict
so they'll change that in ur settings. ..
contact themt o do so immediately

just register a complain and they will call u up.

Those dummies called me up today again and now they r telling that installing Norton antivirus 2005 will solve the problem ( Maybe the norton Guys r payin them to say this )

Still it dosent make sense that how is norton gonna solve a windows system error of IP address conflict

lol... do u know what the chif manager of our exchange had said b 4 they r coming to so called install.... he called me & said "pls buy a Rs. 500 /- LAN card the Rs. 250 /- cards wont b enough... he doesnt know what is MU or SU... neither he knows about switch.... he doesnt know that where 2 plug the CAT 5 cable or where the telephone wire should go....

& u r telling my to talk to them about IP/MAC address.... lol...

our exchange chif maneger came with a paper which had this link & my user name pw writen... & asked me to help him to set up the account...

but after trying for few hours by my self i called them up in our exchange telephone no (on friday).... well he came on monday... that is today.... again with a paer where some instructtion was printed... there he showed me that i am using winXP... & i should b useing windows NT SP4, windows 98SE with the patch, windows 2000, & winXO (yes u r rerading write... he brought that paper writen windows XO....)....

what can i say or do with a guy like him....

well acording 2 this link.... i am suppose to log in with dataone... then visite their internel server site... that is *198.168.1.1/ 2 config my seteing...

but the site isnt working.....??
