Hi Guys, I just had my hands on a new modded XBox (pretty late :? ) with Evolution chip. Can anyone let me know how to install XBMC on that? I found the files on SourceForge.net, but am not sure how to load that on XBox? Each of them is also too small - around 270 kb. Should I burn the zip files on a CD and then try running it on XBox or what?

Plzz help.
Thanks.

I have XBMC installed...Do you have a dashboard installed ? If your gonna ask whats a dashboard then this will help :

*xbox-scene.com/

anything remotely related to xbox that site will have. The order is as follows:

1) Install a dashboard if there is none present. Easiest to install in Evolution-X
2) Setup Ftp on your xbox
3) FTP the contents of XMBC unzipped onto the XBOX.
4) Modify the xml file to see XMBC being reflected.

All of the above steps is there in the link I provided. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Actually I have a dashboard installed. But I think the dealer gave me an old one (one with green skin and only 4 menu items - Videos, Music, XBox Live, Harddisk or something like these). The bottom line is its not possible to access XBox HD from from this dashboard, so i think i have to install a new dashboard. The past 2-3 days i am trying to install XBMC only from a DVD but due to some problem, the skin interface that comes is totally black. I can only see the white characters of the menu, no images, no background image, etc. Perhaps the skin (Project Mayhem III) has a problem.
So I think now I should go for ftping data from XBox to PC using a router or something. Can you just tell me the hardware needed for that? In all the sites they mention using router or hub? I have a PC with broadband connection... do I need to purchase a router or hub and a cable for connecting that?

Hey Jerry, from what you posted it seems that you only have the Microsoft Dashboard installed on your Xbox. To be able to install XBMC first you need to create an EvolutionX boot disc to be able to FTP to your Xbox from your PC and transfer the required files to your Xbox. Then you can either install EvolutionX or XBMC as your main dashboard, though I would highly recommend installing EvoX as your default dashboard and XBMC as an app. To do all this check out the following giude:

Read the guide carefully so as not to make any mistakes while creating the boot disc.

To get EvoX and other programs you need to log on to the xbins IRC channel. To do this check this link out

Hope this helps. If you need more help you can catch me on MSN Messenger. My ID is abhijeet_ghosh.

P.S.: The Xbmc file that I downloaded was around 50 MB not 270 KB.
