hosting website

i have a client who wants to host his ecommerce site from his own dedictaed sever. Now he has even asked me to look out for a good server from IBM or Dell. Can someone suggest me a good server where we can host the website as well as emails for the website... also does anyone know how to make it ready to host website with PHP and MySql

Please post ur Budget !!!!

There are some issue u have to remember, i hope u know what u are doing !!! As u know u can run a normal computer with proper power back up and coooling as web server...

main things are softwares....

but problem in Kolkata or, in India is Slow ISP !!! even u get dedicated high speed (up and down link) service, the price will set ur back,

u will find its easy to buy Dedicated hosting or RAW Server from US based DataCenter !!!

Like, *www.theplanet.com/ where they do all the hardware maintanance and providing u full Remote accessing incl power to reboot the server

anyway, as i said, all depends on ur budget

well there is no budget the client only needs a good server which can solve his purpose... it can range from 40k to 200k...

in Kolkata, as far as i know, Wizertech deals with such High end or Low end server, you have not given details, like what and how much will be the load and what type of software u are looking to run,

as to run a simple, ecommerce web site, which will manage loads of around 500k Page Visit Per month (Unique) a simple desktop running with server software and power back up and cooling can do it....

anyway, u may get in touch with Wizertech *www.wizertech.com/contact.htm and disscuss ur needs with them, as they frequently deal with these type of products, they may be able to suggest the thing u need, or, look for one from here, *www-07.ibm.com/systems/in/browse/inpro/, a server with Xeon Processor, and 1GB RAM should do the job for u...

so for me, I think Better option is to have Dedicated hosting at *www.theplanet.com/

you may run Apache on Windows or Run Linux with Apache server, then install PHP and MySQL

For Apache *www.apache.org/
For PHP *www.php.net/
For MySQL *www.mysql.com/

As os, may be Fedora Core, or Paid as Red HAT and with Windows, you may (have to) go with Server 2003

If you are only going to run PHP and No ASP applications, then Linux should be the choice as will be cheaper (all most free)....

You wanna buy the server and run it in India ? Not a Good Idea if you ask me

You might want to lease a server for a monthly Rent in US Datacenter. Good speeds and reliability.

when budget is not a problem then Good speeds and reliability all things can be bought as when u can spend money, u may build a data center in Amazam jungle
