Hey Guys! Any Software to underclock the CPU

Hey guys,

i have a P-IV 2.4 GHz HT processor on an Original Intel 865GBF Mobo.
Problem is that, summers are just starting and my CPU temp is going up by 40-50 degree celcius, even when i had my cabinet opened up. I am worrying about my processor as it is used for games for long hours.

I have seen HLT coolers like rain or waterfall. They are not designed or updated for P-IVs, and if you do get them working in compatibility of some older processor, the effect is not up to mark. Moreover with WinXP, HLT coolers are good for nothing as it contains the System Idle Thread which effectively does the same thing.

I've heard about softwares that decrease the speed of CPU to a certain extent so that it can run cool. I think it will work fine with WinXP(Of course if it is available, i'm not sure) since combination of both HLT cooling and speed decrease will allow maximum cooling.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT A SOFTWARE THAT CAN LET ME DECREASE THE SPEED OF MY P-4 HT TEMPORARILY, IN OTHER WORDS, I NEED AN UNDERCLOCKING UTILITY, ANYONE?

I don't know of any software underclocking tools.
But it would be much better if you bought a good heatsink-fan combo by Thermaltake or Zalman to replace the stock one.
Consider adding additional fans to your cabinet.
A hardware solution will be much better than a software one.
Don't leave your cabinet open as dust will accumulate on your components and heat it up even more.
Make sure loose wires and cables are not obstructing the flow of air in your cabinet.
If nothing else works, consider getting a water cooling solution.

hey Krazy_About_Technology ...

do that by simply running the CPU at a lower bus speed or if possible a lower multiplier.....frm the BIOS..
nyway try out the following links..

pheeeew....enuf for time being...do revert bak after going thru the links..!

Yeah there are some softwares which can reduce CPU speed but a better fan would be better.......
Moreover, CPU cooling softwares can help. Browse many CPU related tools from the URL below. You may find a good one.............

Hey Guys,
You know, hardware solutions do work, but are expensive.moreover, i have installed 2 extra fans in the cabinet as prescribed by Digit, ie. one for suction of fresh air and another for exhaustion of hot air. They have made my problem worse. It only gave me a 2 degree fall in temprature but now one of my sensors are reporting a temprature of 52 degree. Also my power supply is giving out very hot air through its fan.
I am forced to keep my system open to keep it below 40.I clean all the components every month. :-(
Anyways, thanx guya, i will check out the software solutions given above.Bye the way, does underclocking my cpu, using fsb (well thats the only way with intel cpus) voids my warrenty??

 i dont think that shud void the warranty...but iam not 100% sure..
better mail intel guys at *supportmail.intel.com/scripts-emf/welcome.aspx?id=

by the way which software ru using for measuring temp???

I'm currently using Motherboard Monitor 5.3.6.0. Its got inbuilt support for my board now. I also have Intel Desktop Utilities lite installed that gives information about temprature too. Previously i used Intel Active Monitor. One thing i would like to say, i am not sure but i think that these intel softeys add some compensation values to the temprature readings. what do you ppl think?
