Hell Lot of Time 2 Start Application(s)

Dear ALL,
i use winXp Sp2/512 DDR RAM/80GB. When d desktop appears (it appears f9), & i try to run my application like opening windows explorer, shooting from Quicklaunch, OR dobleclicking desktop icon...my applications take verrrrrrrry long time to appear...checked my drives with adaware SE / Kaspersky anti-virus for POSSIBLE attack...i Guess i need Registry Tweaking...SO Can ne1 b of HELP in this matter.
Also HOW Can i reduce no. of items in RIGHT-CLICK "send-to" options ????? Lots of application have made their entries in there.

whats your configuration.
if intel's then update/install the inf support
then install the appropriate application accelerator for your chipset
install the latest Gfx drivers
optionally install the latest sound drivers

defrag your hdd

if using fat32 then convert your filesystem to ntfs

Clear ur Prefetcher one time. Maybe it is overloaded.
Use CCLEANER. Its coool.

a good tun-up is reqd, i guess. use tune-up utilities or system mechanic.
also reduce ur start-ups.

Type following in address bar of Windows Explorer:

%userprofile%\sendto

Now u can delete the unwanted shortcuts

1=>Set the Virtual Memory too "512"MB or "1024" MB (both min. & max value should be same).

2=>Defragment the Drives. (before defragmenting turn OFF, s/w like Anti Virus & disable "Hibernate" mode.==>this will speed up the defragmentation<==

3=>Run a Registry Scan (CCleaner will do it for you)

4=>Clear the contents of "preFetch folder" - to do it- "Start->Run"-> type prefetch. Select
the contents & delete.

5=>Remove unwanted programs from Windows StartUp.
to do this "Start->Run->msconfig-> goto"Start Up" TAB, & uncheck the unneccessary Programs.

If all these dont help, then some program is causing the problem.
experiment it by Removing the Start-Up entry of Anti-Virus, then Anti Spyware, one by one till your pc is fine. (use the 5th method for this)

I use AMD 1800+ (Barton)..WEll reg. my main problem(thread)...
--> Clear ur Prefetcher.....by (EagerBeaver & s18000rpm) ... it has bounced over my head.
--> Have tried CCleaner in the past..but IT does not seem to "restore"..in case one wishes.
--> instead of msconifg..i uses startup organeizer by metaproducts..its gr8.
--> Duke..how to convert my partition to NTFS ? i guess i cannot revert to FAT32 again?
