Hello,

I presently have only one HDD in my computer.I intend fixing another HDD in my computer.I

want to load Fedora Linux on it .But , before I purchase a HDD I need to clarify a few things.

1. This will be a internal HDD but I may transfer it from one computer ( PC 1) to another

computer ( PC 2 ) as and when I feel like doing so.( I will not be networking my computer as it is

not possible so I need to do this ).

2. When I transfer it from PC1 to Pc2, will PC 2 accept the HDD and give me the option to load

Linux on it. At this time will PC 1 ask me if I want to load linux or Windows or will it by default

load Windows since the disk with Linux is removed.

3. So , basically what I am looking at is that when the HDD which has linux on it is disconnected

from the computer, the computer should not show that there WAS a HDD connected to it

Thanks a lot.

Well if anyone think it is possible please let me know.

Well the solution as I see it is-

Since you intend that the HDD should not be recognised by PC1 at any point of time then the simplest thing would be for PC1 to have any version of Windows to be installed on it.
Coz as your HDD contains only Fedora Linux. So the entire HDD is in formatted in the ext filesystem.Which also means that there is no question of windows recognising it.
The disk will however be recognised .I do not think there is anyway to avoid that. But you will not be getting any more drives in My Computer and that I suppose serves your purpose.

Well for PC2 to give you an option to boot in to Linux from that HDD it's MBR should have the corresponding entry on it.Which I don't think is possible.

Thanks but I have got another doubt . I will not keep the whole HDD for Linux. I might partition it and keep certain softwares or backup loaded on it .

And I have Win xp loaded on PC1 .

Also If I load certain softwares on it like VB 6.0 they will obviously become inactive when the HDD is disconnected but will they become active when I re-connect the disk .

Thanks
