Graphics card or HDMI cable burnout ?

Okay so when I turned on my PC this morning, my monitor (Philips 224CL2) showed me the "Check cable connection" message. I plugged/unplugged the HDMI cable but to no avail. Since I don't have any other HD monitors/ HDMI cables, I checked the cable at a friends house by connecting his laptop to his HDTV, and it's working fine. So now can I assume that the graphics card is dead ? Or is it possible that the cable works with the TV, but not with my monitor ?

EDIT: I disconnected the graphics card from the motherboard, and connected the the HDMI cable to the HDMI port in the motherboard, and yet my monitor is receiving no signal. So now really can't decide if the fault is with the cable or the graphics card.

Help please!

BMG ftw!!
If you can't get any display from both the graphics card and motherboard, then it is highly unlikely that graphics card is bad. Check the cable and monitor.
