I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 R, the laptop uses a 2 GB AMD RADEON 8850M with a fast DDR5 memory and a 128 bit bus.
Now the GPU core turbo clocks at 625 MhZ and the memory at 1025 MHZ, I use AMD system monitor to observe the behavior of the GPU. Now when I run a performance demanding application like a game or a benchmark and the laptop is connected to the charger the GPU runs at its max core and memory speed,
However when I run the same app on battery the GPU reaches on only half of its max core and memory speed(300/400 MHZ resp), this means the GPU is underclocking on battery.
I wanted to know whether this behavior exhibited by Nvidia GPU's(750M etc) as well ? or is it just the AMD GPU's ?
