GPU Debug light red during random shutdown/reboot - MSI H110M Pro-VD

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure in which sub-forum to post this, so if this is not the right one then admins kindly move it to the correct sub-forum.

Below is the issue I'm facing since last 4-5 weeks.

My PC build is giving a specific problems since last few weeks.

Recently while using my PC, it suddenly shutdowns and I can see the GPU debug light being red before it does so. After that it boots up fine till it reaches login screen and then again shutdowns.

After few hours, it boots up fine and I can use it fine, till it happens randomly again.

Also, during bootup I can see the GPU debug light being on for quite sometime until the Windows actually starts loading. CPU and RAM debug light only flashes once during boot which I is normal.

During gaming, I've checked the temperature log via MSI afterburner and the temp is 40 right before reboot while max was 60 while gaming.

Can anyone confirm here if this is a GPU issue or there is something I might have overlooked as I've not faced any screen flickering etc. ever while using PC even before it shutdowns.

The build is of March 2016.

My configuration is:

MB: MSI H110M Pro-VD
CPU: Intel i3 6100
RAM: HyperX 1 x8GB
GPU: MSI GTX 960 2GD5T OC Edition
PSU: EDGE 750 GoldCertified

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

I would say try to use the integrated graphics to confirm if GPU is not at fault.

Thank you guys for the response. Really appreciated.

I checked today with integrated VGA/GPU graphics. I switched to IGP in BIOS and booted up but the VGA debug light was still on for sometime which is not normal.

To make sure, next I removed the GPU card from the MB and tried with the Integrated graphics. Still it was on. To be sure I did a quick OS reinstall as I already have backup, installed latest MB drivers including onboard graphics.

Next I installed steam and downloaded MCC and as soon as I ran it, it went down.

Now I'm sure it's either the MB or PSU. Anyways to make sure which is creating issue without buying anything new?

I'm now 90% certain it's the MB since that is a cheap one but has served me steadily for yrs. Sadly, don't have the MB warranty left anymore but the PSU has it.

Appreciated.

Also note, I updated my BIOS to latest version once the issue has started around mid Feb, so the MB BIOS is latest one.

Thanks a lot,
Vikas

You can take the mobo+processor+ram+psu to a local pc shop & ask them to check it with their psu & ram & if still issues then mobo issue is confirmed else psu is the issue. You can also ask for psu from some friend/relative.

Ok. Finally found out my PSU is having issues. It's out of warranty and considering I might upgrade in future soon, can anyone suggest a good one 650 wattz 80% minimum certified.

650w psu is only required if you are going for 8 core processor with RTX2070/equivalent card, for all other purposes a 550w psu is more than enough.

I'm looking for a Ryzen 5 3600 build with 32GB RAM n gtx 1660 super with 2 SSD, 1 TB HDD, standard KB, mouse and some cabinet fans (4). Will 550 one will be fine? MB will be B450 build.

Yes but for B450 mobo get this only Buy Online Asrock B450 Pro4 AMD AM4 Socket Motherboard lowest price in india at www.theitdepot.com

Some members here are using above mobo with no issues with ryzen 3600,confirm from the itdepot(call or email) about latest bios version supporting ryzen 3xxx but 99% chance it should already have the latest bios supporting ryzen 3xxx processors.

Are other MB like Asus ones have some issues with 3600?
No but under 10k asrock b450 pro 4 is the best mobo to pair with ryzen 3600 & all the members here who bought it for same setup are happy with it. There was one member here who bought msi b450 tomahawk max for ryzen 3600 & faced a lot of issues & finally ended up with RMA of the board. Asus(specifically this model only Buy ASUS TUF B450M-PRO GAMING at Lowest price in India - mdcomputers.in ) seems another good option but asrock B450 pro 4 is the best option under 10k.
