HEY GUYS!
my 3 year old config.
cpu- 1.8GHZ intel dual core (e2160)
ram- 2 gb moserbaer
gpu- nvidia 9400gt
psu-mercury 400w

my question is if i upgrade only my gpu to some sub 10 to 11k and retain EVERYTHING else, can i play at decent fps (30 plus). i think the proccy cant take the load at lower resolutions so if with a decent gpu and higher resolutions and settings i might be able to get good performance???
thanks.

Getting a 6k GPU is enough. The CPU will give same performance with a 10k GPU. also that PSU needs changing.

hmmm, i recently bought gta 4 ( i know !). and the benchmarks gave barely 12 fps at the least setttings. but skyrim gave me much much better performance than gta ( released in 08). this has to because of the processor ?

GTA IV needs lots of resources. It will need a lot processing power. Also the 9400 GT you have is also quite weak.

For a example, if I OC my 9500 GT and run GTA IV at 1024x768(Yes I am a CRT user too) the max I get is 40 FPS. Most places its 20 to 25 FPS. My processor is AMD Phenom II x4 840.

So you need a powerfull processor+good GPU for performance and graphics in GTA IV specifically.

thanks , its good. the intel based config comes to 26k without some components. and can the amd proccy be unlocked?? i wont overclock anything if it meets my requirements.

and also wont the 560 gtx make more sense in the intel config? it is better than the amd counterpart right?

Yes to six cores. But can't gurantee success. Although most people can.

see this- *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/overclocking/157671-help-unlocking-phenom-ii-x4-960t.html

See if you can get the 560 with the Intel rig(budget will get stretched way over again :( )

yes, GTX 560 is lot better

Your right. Budget goes way up.

Seems like the unlocking is not so much necessary for gaming.

For about 2k more i can get the intel 2500k. Is that a major performance boost or should i stick with the 2400?

If you dont overclock, no use getting 2500k. for gaming only you dont need to OC anyways. the 2400 will provide enough satisfactory performance.

4 cores more than enough for most games now.

BMG ftw!!
and can the amd proccy be unlocked??

Now let me introduce you to some facts.
1. 960T is out of stock everywhere in India, only flipkart sells them. Those 960T sold by them have very little chance of unlocking.
2. Flipkart sells 1075T @7.4K, only 500/- costlier than 960T. So, why would you count on the chance of unlocking 960T when you are given the chance of buying hexa core processor at that price?
3. If you are not into overclocking 1075T is clear choice over 960T.

To utilize power of 2500K, you will need a Z68 motherboard which cost min 9K.
P67 boards are not available in the market any more.
A big no no if you are planning to run 2500K with H61 board even without overclocking. At least buy IntelDH67CL @5.3K if you plan to run 2500K without OC'ing.

And i meant the thanks for both you guys.

Getting the 2500k with the mobo you suggested will increase my budget. Only to 25k to 27k max. So mostly will avoid the 2500k
