1) What is your budget?
Around 40K.

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?
This will be my backup system if something happens to my main rig. So, this'll mostly be used for browsing and media consumption by other family members. Occasionally, I may need to run some ide for work related stuff. No gaming.

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?
I'd like the following -
  • 16 GB RAM. It could come with 8 GB with an expandable slot.
  • 512 GB SSD. Faster is obviously better.
  • Full HD display
  • WiFi 5

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I don't know enough about laptop manufacturer to comment here. I have heard both good and bad about pretty much every manufacturer.

6) Anything else you would like to say?
  • Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) ) - No preference
  • Purchase place ( Online (eg - flipkart, infibeam) / Local / Abroad (do mention the country) ) - Prefer offline but open to Amazon.
I can only see MSI Modern 14/15 and Asus Vivobook 15 around this price with Ryzen 5 75xx / 11th gen i5 / 12th gen i3 config. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Asus Vivobook Go 15 is good except for soldered RAM & no expandable RAM. If it had 16GB RAM, wouldn't have been an issue.

Get HP 14s with R3 5300U/R5 5500U with 8GB RAM & 512GB SSD. Can add another RAM stick later.

R5 5500U will outperform R5 7520U, AMD got greedy & released a quad core R5 part after years that too based on same architecture as R3 5300U/5500U. So basically it is a 5300U refresh.

I can see few Q&A about 2nd ram slot but it isn't mentioned anywhere in spec of HP 14s.

Also, I can see a 16GB option on Asus website. I don't know if it is available outside.
