Gaming PC Help [Updated]

Didn't knew about this format so gonna answer them. Sorry for old thread. :oops:

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:Its "Purely" gaming.
Applications aren't much of a problem honestly since none of them wont be anything a solid gaming pc can't handle.
Games would be heavily graphic requiring like crysis 3, Gtx 4, Battlefield 4, Assassin creed unity and some more. You get the idea, i need the pc for heavy gaming.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: I can spend upto 80k. Though the lower the better.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Yep. I will overclock everything that can be overclocked. Need a good PSU and cooler for it.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 7, but don't include it in the build. I already got a original windows 7 ultimate cd.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB. I will use it along my old 500gb to get more than enough size.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No. Got a monitor that already supports 1600x900 so i am cool atleast for now.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I am gonna use my old HDD "along" new one but in terms of part i will "replace" with new one are as far as probably none. Maybe just my optical drive if it fits the new cabinet(Yes, i need a cabinet as well).

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Around a month. Enough time to be sure of the built and the parts cost to reduce.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Gonna get done by assemble(Family issues), but parts will be all provided and it will be assembled right in the site(My home).

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: New delhi. Well, not exactly sure. Was planning to buy from nehru place if it comes off cheaper than online but yes i am ready to buy from online sites if price is right. Only indian sites, not international tho, don't wanna spend useless money on shipping charges and its taxes.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Yep. I actually planned getting Gtx 970, Intel i5 4690k. Not exactly sure whether Asus,msi,gigabyte etc for gtx 970(Help me decide). As for mobo, i decided GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 but not that sure anymore. My gpu will provide solid graphics and this mobo can provide solid sounds but is there a better mobo which can replace this one with same budget range AND still maintain good sound quality.

> First, avoid creating multiple threads for the same purpose. You should have continues in the old thread and updates your post with the questionnaire. Anyways, now stick to this thread.

> 1600x900 resolution monitor will be of no sense for an 80k build. You'll be better off with a new full HD monitor. Sell your current monitor for some extra 4-5k.

> You might wanna check the answer to question 8 :p.

I'd suggest forum's 70k rig -

Budget - 70k

Motherboard
ASUS H97M-E7,400

Optical Drivenone0
MonitorDell S2240L8,800
KeyboardLogitech MK200 Keyboard & Mouse Combo750

The CPU is not overclockable though but as your have mentioned that the main purpose of your PC is gaming, there is no value in getting a more expensive overclockable CPU and a Z97 motherboard as the advantages of overclocking in gaminig are minimal at best. You can overclock the GPU though which is what matters most in gaming.

I don't really need monitor atm, soon my family will buy a new LED(For tv) so i will have the old one if i want to.
The reason i am getting overclockable i5 is because i will be using this pc for more than couple of years. I wont overclock it the moment i get it tho, i will oc it when its getting old and needs some buff.
Considering audio features, Is ASUS H97M-E better than the Z97?

All things i need after for long run so that's why i am gonna overclock parts when they are getting old, as it increases input as well are you sure that PSU and no cooler will work?

GTX 970's power would be wasted if you want to game on 900p. It would be better to sell it and get the Dell S2240L.

If you don't plan to run multiple VM's or do video encoding/recoding/rendering, then OC'ble cpu won't be needed.

Alright. I can manage to replace the monitor if it really makes much difference. Are there some more suggestions regarding the monitor? Even if it reaches 10k cost i will be able to afford it so not much of a problem. If it makes a difference i am in.

Secondly, I am gonna gonna be rendering much heavily but i will be doing some rendering for game videos i will make so i believe its worth overclocking then.

Thirdly, You sure 520W and no cooler will be good? Many people suggested me i should get 600W or 650W.

Fourthly, What is difference with Z97 gaming 5 and Asus H97M-E?
In my understanding, Z97 gives better audio features and couple more stuff with little increase in cost while H97M-E doesn't give that much audio features. Yet most of people suggest me Asus motherboards over Z97, Why? Can anyone explain?

GTX 970 has 145W TDP compared to 230W of the GTX 770, 520W should be enough.

Let me rephrase the question 8 for you:

When do you plan to get the build complete?

Add a Samsung 850 Evo 120 GB SSD for 6k in the rig too.

Oh damn. Sorry about Q8, i don't know what happened to me. Maybe i was thinking something else in mind while typing the answer. Sorry. :cry: This is funny tho. :lol:

Its good to know that i don't need that heavy PSU, makes things more comfortable.

About ssd, I will be having 1.5TB of disk space for storage and i don't bother waiting for windows to load up but you really do believe that ssd will be worth it? From what i know is that it just decreases loading time of apps or games(Loaded on it) but nothing else.

My question of motherboard is still there btw for anyone who can help. :troll:

^ You're spending 80k in 2015 and not getting a SSD? SSD will give a good boost to startup and shutdown times. Use it only for OS and important heavy apps, not games.

you can always add a caching ssd(sandisk readycache etc)
the boost is worth it imho,you can always add it in later if needed though

I will get ssd then. 64 gb or around that will be enough for me honestly. Windows can be installed on it easily with more than half of its space left for some apps.

There is barely a 2k price difference between 60 (or 64) GB and 120 (or 128) GB SSDs.

840/850 Evo and intel SSD's don't come under 120 GB

I guess i will leave 5k separately from this 80k budget just for ssd.

My main problem currently is-> Which one is better in motherboards in most aspects? Many says that Z97 allows over locking while H97M doesn't. I don't plan on overclocking the moment i get the pc assembled but i surely plan it when my pc starts getting old after couple of years(Yes i plan on keeping this pc for real long time).

520w is enough.

that z97 is definitely better, but you are paying a premium too ;) and realtek 1150 can really compete with entry level add-in cards.
for rendering ,overclocking will help. so getting a k series cpu makes a difference. and you need to get a good z97 board with k series cpu.

it is true. you can't overclock with an h97 board.

sure if overclocking is the purpose then z97 makes more sense also you can just buy 4790 non k pair it with h97 mobo.. price wise it will be same as 4690k+z97+cpu cooler. sure i5 and i7 dont have much difference in gaming right now but for sure will help in future since u plan on using this for at least 4 years

theres even caching ssd if you want
a caching ssd storage cannot be used,your main hdd will be your OS disk but the ssd will be used to boost it
so you wont need to juggle data around back and forth between ssd and hdd

Well its decided. I am going with Z97 then. But i won't getting i7, hardly any games even now uses hyper threading and in near future its said they won't. If such games comes after a couple of years then i can always update the processor. Needless to say, you guys are great help.

So my specs so far are->
Processor-> i5 4690k
Motherboard-> Z97 Gaming 5
Ram -> Kingston HyperX Blu 2x4 GB
GPU-> Zotac GTX 970 4GB DDR5
PSU-> Seasonic S12II 520W
HDD-> WD Blue 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD (Along with my current 500GB HDD).
SSD-> Kingston NOW V300 120 GB SSD Internal Hard Drive Black (How is this? Looks cheap and good).
Cabinet-> Deepcool Tesseract.

Leaving aside monitor,cooler,mouse/keyboard etc aside for now so i can at least finalize these parts first.

Q-> Will Deepcool Tesseract have a good space for expansion later on and good inbuilt cooling system? I live in 3rd floor, i got ac in my room but i won't be using it specially to keep it cold.

^ AnandTech | Kingston SSDNow V300 (120GB & 240GB) Review

Because the V300 doesn't bring anything special to the market, pricing is more important than ever. The V300 is affordable but not exceptionally cheap. Right now you can find Plextor M5S and Samsung SSD 840 for the same price or even for slightly less, and I would rather pick one of them instead of the V300. However, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the prices quoted in the table because pricing fluctuates and NewEgg is just one reseller. If you're buying an SSD, I suggest that you follow the prices for a few days and try to catch a hot sale.

If not the 850 Evo, get the 840 Evo instead of V300.
