Freezing issue - Windows 7 reinstall

I have a desktop with Windows 7 64-bit. A freezing problem started a few days ago. What happens is when I open more than one tab in Chrome, Firefox or Explorer the computer freezes.

I have tried system restore, ccleaner registry cleaner, defrag and several scans with anti-virus - and many other things. The freezing is getting worse - I can work with only one Explorer tab open. Chrome freezes even with one tab open.

I can watch videos, see excel/word files in fact anything else is no problem, only while browsing.

I decided to do a reinstal of the OS.But my doubt is that there could possibly be a HD problem. If there is some fault with Hard Drive, should I proceed with reinstal? Or should I check the HD first - what is simple way to check it?

Please give your inputs.

does you computer freezes or it just say not responding in chrome, firefox title bar..means have you tried switching to other tasks using keyboard.. (press alt+tab or start menus. )

Happens with all 3 browsers listed. It's a complete freeze. Have gone over it in another thread(in signature).

This thread is about the reinstal and HD.

if you are just facing trouble with browsers so your HD is fine and it is just software troubles. you can play videos and all for long run right?

Yes I have no problem except for browser and as soon as I open any browser it (entire comp) freezes, with Chrome almost immediately. Explorer runs for some time - in fact I am working thanks to Explorere but if I open 1-2 more tabs in Explorer that also freezes the ENTIRE computer.

Btw I have unisnatlled and installed Chrome using iobit unistaller and done some other steps(in another thread). Hence looking at installing OS again.

I really wish there is some other solution. I have never doen reinstalling OS.

Installing Windows 7 is pretty straight-forward. If you have the fast track of November 2010, then you can refer to chapter 2 for windows 7 installation. Otherwise, I am willing to write a step by step guide..

What's fast track of November 2010?

A link to someone who has done it, if it exists I am sure it does, will also do.

Heat and computer freezing issue

I had shifted the location of my desktop to a hotter room and also placed the chassis next to an inverter which emits heat and my PC has got a freezing problem. The earlier room had an AC which I used to switch on when very hot .

I used to have freezes in the previous location but it was a rare occurrence earlier maybe 1-2 times a week. I could open as many tabs as I wanted in chrome, firefox or explorer and there was never a problem only rarely.

Ever since I changed my room(now I have come back to the earlier location), PC freezes completely. Also, this happens only when I browse the internet and open multiple tabs. Chrome and Firefox freeze even with one tab open now. I can open the internet only with Explorer now with one tab. The moment I open 2-3 tabs the entire computer freezes within 1-2 minutes.

Problem is only with internet browsing. I can play videos, music, work on excel, ppt etc but there is no problem.

I can't figure out whether it is a hard drive problem or something else. I remembered that I had changed the room earlier and the problem started so I have put it down.

I have tried many things including system restore, registery cleaning etc(I have an earlier thread in signature) but nothing has worked so far. I am no thinking of reinstalling OS but I am not sure whether the problem will be fixed.

I have PHENOM II X4 + GIGABYTE GA 88 GMA UD 2H |Seagate HDD 500GB Sata |DDR-3 CORSAIR x2 |HD 6850 |COOLER MASTER CABINET |COOLER MASTER SMPS 500W

Please give your inputs on what the solution could be.

Installing Win7?
Just insert the DVD and follow on screen instructions. There is nothing more.

which antivirus are you using? .. disable your AV and check.. - Might be a primary cause.

also disable/uninstall addons , remove Flash player and check ..

you have another thread running on the same topic.. reporting to merge the two threads.
