Netbook; 11" - 10” screen or less
Thin and Light; 12" - 14" screen
Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

Ideally 14" screen
(second preference 15 ones)

3) What are the primary tasks you will be performing with this notebook?

No Gaming
Multi tasking like using many common programs like word excel downloading watching movie opening multiple broswer windows, adobe acrobat, torrent, OCR

5) Any typical configuration in your mind you're eying for ?

Ideally i5 as my understanding i3 would be too less

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

Dislike: Acer , HP and ASUS (HP and ASUS never tried)

Screen resolution ( 768p (HD) / 900p / 1080p (Full HD) )
Battery back up ( normal (3-4hrs) / extended (5-7hrs) )

The Dell one has a processor that is one generation older than the HP one & the HP one has AMD graphics whereas the Dell one has nvidia(I couldn't find the exact model of the dell chipset though). Either one of these should suit your needs. About Full HD, I think they start at about 50k so that's that.
