DVD Writer not reading

I have a Sony DVD R/RW DRU 810A bought 6-8 months back. The problem is it is detected by my BIOS, by Windows XP. It ejects when i press on the context menu, but whenever I insert a CD or a DVD into the drive it does not get detected. I also tried upgarding the firmware but it still does not work. Please someone help me.

take it to service centre.........its inside warranty Period

Change your data cable.The same problem occured with my friends DVD writer.
