DVD Writer Issues Galore

As of now, I have lost roughly Rs. 100 thanks to my handful of CDs and a couple of DVDs not writing properly.

I have a SONY DVD RW DRU-830A drive according to my burning software, graveman.

I run ArchLinux i686 on my computer, which was updated only yesterday morning.

I noticed that even unscratched discs got junked.

Yesterday evening, after a junk, I restarted and tried again and then it worked.

I have a Pentium 4 Prescott 2.66GHz processor in an Intel D915GLVG motherboard with 256MB DDR 400MHz RAM.

Please help.

It doesn't matter!
Man there are lot of parameters to look into when you have a problem with DVD drives.
1. How old is the Drive?
2. Any specific error you get?
3. Try a different burning software..
4. Check cables inside the cpu.
5. Try the Drive on a different pc..

Always confused
SONY DVD writers and combo drives are a big problem and utter waste. I am telling you with my own experiece of wasting around 4000 rupees for a crampy combo drive

You have not even given sufficient details... like what error you get, etc...

As for a new drive, go for LG or Lite On.
