I have this sony DVD-RW DW-Q30A drive, which is a couple of years old.
A week ago I formatted my Windows partition to get a fresh install. The problem is that my DVD-RW drive has stopped working ever since.
Windows explorer hangs whenever I insert a CD or DVD, and I have to restart explorer.exe.
The quaint thing is that the drive works perfectly under Linux ( Ubuntu), and recognizes all the contents of a disc under Linux.
my vendor supplied me with no drivers whatsoever, and this drive has always been running without any drivers since I bought it.

What the heck is this problem, i really cant figure it out. your expertise would be of great value here, folks. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm.. Try disabling Autorun on the drive ..

Start > Run > Gpedit.msc {Press Enter}

Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System
Set Turn Off Autoplay to Enabled.
