hi friends. I want to buy a entry level handy cam in the range of 14000 to 18000. Please suggest wheather to go for DVD or mini DV based. Please tell the cost of both the medias too.

avoid both and get HDD model.
copying miniDV to pc is a big headache as the time taken to copy a minidv tape to PC is equal to recording duration.
dvd model is much better but you need to carry those disc's with you.
HDD model has huge amount of space and is perfect for Highdef recording.

If your budget is sub-20k, you're not going to get a High-def. You will get a low end HDD based or a top end Mini-DV based.
But HDD is sooo much more convenient.

Don't go 4 miniDV..I have one...It is quite inconvenient to transfer the tapes to ur computer's HDD..Then u need the right kind of softwares and a firewire port also in ur CPU to do so..
