Desktop replacement tablets in the future?

Hi,

I have a Dell studio laptop with broken screen so have connected it to a Dell S2240L with a HDMI out and using it as a Desktop replacement.

Couple of days ago found nexus 7 on flipkart for only 9000 and have been very tempted ever since to buy one. Only problem is that i already have this Desktop with a screen that i have invested money in. So my mind is telling me to wait till the laptop goes kaput and then i can replace it with a future version of nexus with video output.

Is there any tablet in the market right now which can output video to a 22 inch HD screen? When can we expect such tablets ? I do not want to waste such a good screen nor buy another netbook/notebook. Thanks

I am not sure the ergonomics of such a setup would be comfortable in any way. Unless you are using the HDMI output for viewing photos/video or for playing games, getting any other work done would not be very feasible since it would be hard to type without looking at the tablet in your hand, therefore there would be no need for the larger display.

What kind of work you usually do with laptop?
or want to do with tablet?

I am mostly looking to browse the internet , watch movies and do light office work that's it.

About the ergonomics, i think an solution should be provided either in software or hardware mode:

Software: It would be very nice if a tablet could detect that it is in "desktop mode" when connected to a monitor and show a keyboard on the bottom and the top part would turn into a touchpad. A mouse pointer should appear on the larger display.

Hardware: The screen would turn off completely and we can attach a keyboard with a analog stick (mouse).

Can we have this in any of the current gen tablets and can we expect such features in the near future (1-3 years)

There's a catch Friend.
A very good battery capacity(> 8000mAh or 10000mAh)of the Tablet will be usesful, for attaching devices such as mouse/keyboard.
But if battery capacity is low, then stability issues set in.

The PiPo Max-M8 Pro(latest Tablet that I purchased recently) is a magnificent Tablet on its own,but the 3.7V 6500mAh battery is a lesser capacity to use multiple devices...That is the drawback of this Tablet.

Good point. I was actually considering selling off ainol venus and purchasing nook hd+. People are getting incredible battery life on it( 10-12 hrs screen ontime with 20% brightness). Check the thread on TE for more info
