New Delhi: Global computer maker Dell is in the process of launching low-cost personal computer at about $ 238 (Rs 10,000) across the world, including India.


"We are testing the product in China. The PC would be customised according to the market and customer needs," Dell India General Manager (Sales) Sameer Garde said on the sidelines of company's product launch.

What happened to Aamchi PC and HCL and all those brnads which sold PC's at Rs.8,000?
No PC in India can be less thanRs.20000 if it has Windows Pre-Loaded.

VIA proc + Microtek Motherboard bundle = Rs.3100/-
256mb ram - Rs.600/-
Samsung 40GB - Rs.1800/-
Samsung CDROM drive - Rs.600/-
Samsung 15" CRT - Rs.3800/-
Kbd & Mse - Rs.450/-
Desktop Speakers - Rs.200/-
Cabinet - Rs.650/-
OS - Ubuntu Linux - Free!!!
Total - Rs.11200/- (well a li'll over Rs.10000/-)

Recently on The Hindu newspaper, I saw an ad by local company offering Desktop PC for 12k... Had Celeron proccy with 845 board if I remember correctly, plus the usual 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, etc...

In this case, since Dell is bringing the product, I would expect Linux or FreeDOS or XP Starter Edition (seems unlikely though) as the OS...
