I just now came across extended patches of contrasting colours (i couldn't find better words to describe the issue :p) only on the right hand side though.

my monitor is Dell 2030m (full config in siggy)

do any one here knows what is causing this or anybody has this issue ?

see this screenshot :

and this camera - capture (my camera sucks, please bear with it. :|) :

also, this happens not only with pics, actually, in every set of contrasting colours, everything that's displayed in on the monitor, this issue is visible.

any body having this issue, please let me know.

Sigh of relief mate..

hehe :)

BTW can you check one thing since you have the same monitor,
just set custom setings once and do some brightness and contrast settings (change the levels to whatever you like)
and tell me if you too find that extended shadow issue.
just curious .

Your vga cable may be faulty-try using a different one and check if the problem persists;better still, use a dvi cable. If your monitor is under warranty, you should get it properly checked by an authorized technician as soon as possible.

Asia Power : PowerCOM UPS IND600

the problem now has decreased to such a level that the extended patches are hardly visible.

There's a possibility that it might occur again- so it will be a good idea to get it checked while the warranty on your monitor is still valid.
