Hi All,

Last Night i installed Windows XP SP2 to my system. After installing the drivers and few other softwares like MS Office, NIS07.. But suddenly i started getting this Error Data Execution Prevention (DEP) and it says Explorer should be closed.

So i followed the *support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875351
and did this

1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
2. Click the Advanced tab, click Performance, and then click Settings.
3. In Performance Options, click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Add.
4. I unchecked the Windows Explorer checkbox.
5. Click Open, click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK.

Is this fine. Should i do anything else, does unchecking cause any Issue.

I have Norton Internet Security Installed in my system. Can i install service pack 3 to my system.

Please do help me. :(

Legen-wait for it-dary!
You should -

1. get rid of norton
2. install sp3
3. wait for an error to occur so that you can see if the dep you changed worked or not.

I tried as you mentioned above, also repaired the windows from the disk. Still the Problem persists, now i unchecked the Windows Explorer option in the DEP options, also my windows is updated till today.

I found that NIS is not the issue.
It gives Error as Windows Explorer, Publisher : Microsoft.

Does it happen if my media is corrupt.
I have installed SP3 also. Is it better

Pls check the current status of your DEP settings.
The default (atleast for Vista) is 2 - DEP is enabled for only Windows system components and services. (Default)

DEP is a security feature actually, but if you wish to turn it off, see here.
