When you are using a Dial-Up connection your system is actually making a call. Now when you make a normal call can you recieve call? No naa.. Same way when you are on Dial Up you cant recieve call. And whats more... Your connection might terminate when someone give a call or someone at ur home tries to make a call. So there is no way you can do what you want except you get a BroadBand connection. Then you can use Internet and Call/Recieve simultaneously.

I had this problem long time ago, in My case this was dude the "Call Waiting Service" enabled in my landline. Try disabling call waiting and then check.

Call waiting in landline ? never heard
Its real... Check your Telephone Directory... There must be something in it about how to activate it.
But if you are a dial-up user its better to deactivate it.

If yourmodem is of v.92 standard, then I hope this could help:
*en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V.92

If you have call waiting service, then you could put your modem on hold, only if it is of v.92 standard.

Broadband is now as cheap as 199 /- per month....Why not get a BSNL/MTNL connection?.You won't be missing important calls that way and its freaking annoying...And with such high web content its impossible to do everything with a dial up connection. It will most likely occur with most common modems used to dial up.Until you have v.92.
