Core 2 Duo extreme or Core 2 Quad?

I currently have dual core 1.8Ghz looking to upgrade it to either one of them ..bt im really confused on which is better ....my work includes gaming and mostly photoshop and lightroom..help me out to buy the better one..

my budget would be around 5k-6k everything else is fine just the speed is really not that much

Quad will help Photoshopping more.

What Ram do you have? ddr2 or Ddr 3

yup. to beat the setup recommended by techfreak you'll need a C2Q Q9*** series proccy that alone cost 10k+ (& now it is no longer avl). but if you want to upgrade just your processor & retain everything else, look for C2Q Q8*** processor but will cost you around 7k or more.
