confused over specs!!!!

i m thinking of buying a dell xps15 & i am thinking of modifying it as below

proce: i5
ram:8GB
display:FHD
hard disk:750
optical drive:Blue Ray
GPU: 2GB

plz tell me whether 8GB of RAM is good for i5 processor or should i stick to 6GB,
will 8GB with i5 make a sense or is useless? & is making GPU 2GB help me to play some big titles in games?

8 Gb will prove usefull if you do heavy work like 3d rendering etc on your laptop. Gaming too would somewhat benifit. But for gaming purely 6 gb and 8 gb you would not feel too much difference. If your budget can accomodate then why not get it?. 6 gb is enough for most tasks. Donot forget to configure the laptop with 64 bit operating system too. Also which 2 gb graphics are you talking off? Gt 540m?

ya its GT 540m, so will 2GB give me more flexibility to play more titles than 1GB???

Nopes, GT 540M is roughly equivalent to Desktop GT 430. These lower-mid range cards hardly use even 1 GB memory, 2GB slower and cheaper DDR3 ram is marketing gimmik. Even if they could provide only 512 MB of GDDR3 or GDDR5 (GDDR is Graphics card specific faster memory, don't confuse it with normal DDR3 memory) memory with the card, it will perform better than the 2 GB version.
