Canon's A4xxx range is good tradeof between cheap and quality. Kodak have a 8mpix model at 5k+ cant remember the model number , but pictures seemed to be over processed to me . I'll say go for canons , you may have to increase budget , but it'll be worth it. Canons are quite durable also.
