so here's my story

had gotten a hp dv2855ee laptop sometime in may2k8. after 1.5 years of really rough use, it died. unfortunately for me it was 5 days out of extended warranty.
and the service centre guys happily agreed to replace it for 17k.
though i flirted with the idea of buying a new laptop( i had started a thread earlier asking about the specs), the finance did not work out.

so anyway am thinking about changing the board now.

my question is, can i replace the old board, which had NVIDIA gfx, with one which has ATI one?
or is it possible only to replace the existing board with the exact same one?

this is also because one technician had told me that the NVIDIA ones heat up faster. is that true?

You can only have the same motherboard to be installed. U can't go for complete different motherboard for a specific laptop model.
Graphics card can of a laptop can be changed if the modle is MXM certified. It is very hard to find MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) certified laptop in India, and more difficult is finding a Gfx card for it.
So you have to gor the same Motherboard.
