After a reconfiguration of boot loader in suse linux
two of my drives swapped their drive letters in WINDOWS XP SP2 (weird)
now i can not reassign the drive letters as the disk management utility in control panel fails to start and gives error " service execution failed"
so can u suggest any third party windows based software for achieving the task i have searched the internet and found nothing:(:confused:

in all likelyhood ur disk manager dll has go unregistered
open command prompt and type in this

Win2003
regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmdskmgr.dll

Win2000
regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\dmdskmgr.dll

any other ver os win asearch for the file and put in the actual path with the regsvr32 command
it will register the dll file

check out these

once that is done take alook at these threads

Looks like your partition table have some inconsistencies, can you post the output of fdisk verify(v) and print(p) command.

With partition magic, you can remap those drives with their original drive letters..

faced a similar problem in a fren's computer few days back and cud not fix it.. when i tried to partition with OpenSuse installation, it failed to write to the partition table, saying the partition table was read-only.. this was strange.. at last I had to backup data and repartition the whole disk to fix the problem... wud like to know if any other alt is possible, in case i face similar problem again...
