Hello ,

I bought a c2d 2.4Ghz + Asus P5gc-mx/1333 + 2GB DDR-II 800Mhz and upgraded .

now, the total came around Rs 9900/- .Is it a fair price?and howz this config?I am no pro!I just chose above h/w.no gamer too.

I bought from Noveon Systems , Atlantis Jn Ernakulam Kochin.

Price :-
c2d 2.4 = 5150
Asus P5-gc-mx =2220
2GB Zion 800Mhz RAM = 2187

+- VAT = 9920 ~=9900/-

AFAIK you have got C2d and Asus P5 for a reasonable rate.RAM price could be little lower..Overall good one...

One Doubt, Intel DG31PR @ Rs. 2900/- + VAT would have better choice while cutting the price of RAM by opting for Transend or Kingstone 667MHz which retails at around Rs. 1750//- or so !!!

how ever no talking about that now as doesnt matter any more after purchase !!

Just a personal question !!! Why so much RAM while you would be in Open Source platform ?? !!

Well ,as i am not very happy with intel original boards. Reg 2GB ram upgrade ,is for a future proof option, apart shortens boot time on my debian. Zion and simmtronics were the options available. And who said open source esp gnu/linux are poor? :p we chose foss for ethical reasons too!apart from superior platform that is!!

Intel would have came with X3100 (G31) which is far better in compare to out going 945 !!! so that was my point !!!

And who said open source esp gnu/linux are poor?

I meant that Linux platform may not need that much of RAM for day to day work !!! isnt it ??

Isnt this a dual channel board? In case would it not have been better to go for 2X1GB modules?

And since it is 800Mhz RAM, that price can be tolerated!

945 chipset boards supports 2x1gb @667 MHz so how come u bought a single 2gb module and that too 800MHz

The configuration sounds reasonable.

RAM usage would vary for different programs in use. For example. I use Exaile, Browser (usually +5 tabs at once) , Apache, MySql, PHP, IRC, Pidgin, Compiz, Gnome / KDE . On Ubuntu this would take way over 1 GB + .

945 chipset will stay here atleast for another 3 years right?
@chotocheeta: it may be right.but here 945gc boards are the only boards readily available.else ,I have to book from the dealer for particular board you know.

Yeah unfortunately the slackers in Kerala seem to lack premium products or at least don't even have quite alot of stuff to choose from unless you are willing to wait for a product which you have to preorder.

@filled: we can get the boards from distributors like rashi, tirupati etc.most of the distributors are present in Ernakulam.the problem is with the retailers who delays new products(which I feel).

ordering from bombay may be good.but the risk in courier that you have to pay for

They don't give directly to the customer do they? The last time I checked with Rashi at Kottayam they said that they would only give to retailers who would sell to the consumer.

Correction! G31 has 3100 not x3100 :)

You'd been better off with at least a 965. 945 is already out!

This means that you haf a Core2Duo E4000 series processor.

I will try there next time. Last time I asked at Kottayam they wanted the TIN number and stuff like that.
