I have a HP Pavilion P4 processor with Windows XP Media Center
Edition SP2.
Just after the login screen gets loaded during boot, the system
goes idle for about 2 minutes.(the system also does not show the busy signal
during this time).

how to eliminate this?

I have checked with boot.ini in msconfig. Nothing is wrong there.

Do you have lots of startup processes? But 2 minutes is unholy! Do a total maintenence of your sys and see if there is any significant change?

I also cut down the startup processes whichever not needed.
and only then, the time required for booting got decreased to 2 mins.

Earlier, it took much more time.

I did things like defragmenting, and others, but i am sure they are not going to affect boot
procedure in any way.

Try to uncheck all startup entries in msconfig and then check whether it makes ur system start faster or not?

goto start>run type msconfig, disable any unwanted programs on the startup tab
try disabling the services that u do not use in services.msc
disable any logon antivirus scans
if can also put the windows classic theme, disable all XP special effects.....see if it helps

btw....windows xp with sp2 is much slower that win xp pro(without any service packs/or with sp1) especially if u have 256 or less RAM
