Some VPNs do have servers in India so selecting them should cause no noticeable drop in speed but online gaming depends much more on ping than connection speed so a 10mbps connection with 10-15ms ping is better than a 100mbps connection with 250ms ping(typical situation in India). Also as per this
steam prohibits using vpn so using it may result in account ban. However I do suggest windscribe vpn, try their build your plan option which costs as less as $2/month with unlimited traffic & one IP from a country of your choice(majority select US/EU). @Nerevarine is using windscribe vpn so he may know more about this.
I reached same windscribe before making a post here, Speed becomes peanuts under 500-kbps to 1mbps
Anyway its not a steam game, its mainly with game ranger. Every time I join a room the host is always italic. So googled some solutions and found most people saying get a vpn.
This problem wasnt there before quarantine, maybe airtel done something ( but if internet is working, i cant really complain to them )

Were you using free version of windscribe,if yes then there is a lot of difference between free version & paid version. Also $2 is ~150 rupees so not that much to test.
After quarantine the load on internet is increased even globally so yes it may be possible that because of increased load airtel did something with its traffic routing resulting in this issue(routing determines the way a request is sent from your pc via your ISP server to destination site). Changing your IP will have no effect as long as it is with airtel & using same routing.
