Automatic logoff problem in xp

i have a lenova laptop with Windows xp professional.
recently, i installed avg antivirus 8.0 and completed a scan.

now when i boot the laptop i am getting the logon screen
but after logging in the computer automatically logs off
and comes back to the logon screen

what may be the problem?
please help

Seems while removing virus by AVG some infected system files also be deleted.
Take up your Windows xp professional CD and boot from it.
After booting choose a new installation on the same Drive in Which your XP installed.
This will check for any previous XP installation on this Drive First And Ask you to repair it.
After that your system should work fine.

Better try to run it in Safe Mode if possible & then run SFC

it is not getting into safe mode.
what is that sfc. can u be more clear?

SFC stands for System File Checker.
In simple words it checks for all system files for errors.

To run it issue following command at command prompt
sfc /scannow

This will run SFC.exe.
