What is the exact specification of this laptop? What is the Processor and how much RAM is there installed on it? Use CPU-Z app to get the details if you are unsure about it.
Generally pre-installed Windows 10 on low end laptops is relatively slow because of limited resources and bloatwares.
You can try the following before a clean install
1. Optimize the Page file size
2. Disable several programs meant to auto start, you can use CCleaner app to do that. Generally unwanted bloatwares auto start hogging resources
3. Install a third party free anti virus, that should automatically disable Windows defender
4. Try disabling Windows defender for some time. It's smart, if it does not detect any other anti virus it re-enables itself
5. What is the partition size of the System drive, It should be at least 40 -45 GB
6. Set all your internet connections as metered and try to prevent automatic windows updates. This might work in Pro but may not be very successful on Home edition, possibly. Give it a try
7. Does it happen only with Chrome or any other apps too. If only chrome, try to downgrade chrome by selecting offline installer
8. Download latest Windows 10 ISO from using Media Creation tool. Wipe your system drive and do a complete clean install of Windows 10 downloaded from MS on your laptop. The installer will auto detect the correct edition of Windows and proceed with installation and when online shall activate your Windows 10 again. Your laptop should have a recovery partition that stores the OEM Windows 10 with all drivers and bloatwares. Still if you are concerned, use Asus BackTracker app to create a pen drive recovery image of your Windows 10 before you do a clean install.
