Hi,

I have overcloked my AMD Athlon 64 to 2.2GHz and have to take it to 2.6-2.7 GHz. Is it worthy to buy ASUS Cooler for socket 939? (price quoted in SP road is Rs.1,100).

1) What is the best CPU cooler available in Bangalore for 1000bucks
2) What is the best i-ball cabinet interms of airflow for 2000 bucks
Regards,
Amar.

Well.....which Athlon64 have u overclocked????
it would be dumb to get a third party cooler for a 3200+ oc'ed to 2.2GHz......
So......for Athlon64 I fell the stock cooler is good enough...
But u can get other coolers.....ASUS is not very easily available in the market....
Easily available ones r Cooler Manster,Thermaltake etc....
For u a Ultra Vortex should be well....

Also mention what r the CPU temps at load after oc????
So that we can descide on the CPU cooler?? :D

Hi Sam,

I am interacting with John in Hardware Troubleshooting -> Overheating problems thread.

Here is the info that you need:

I have overclocked Venice 3000+ (1800MHz to 2.4GHz). OCCT and prime95 failed at this speed. So I had to cut the speed to 2.2GHz. I have checked in most of the stores in Bangalore but unable to get any High end CPU cooler.

MBM5 shows CPU temp at 0degree and case temp at 50 degree. Have no clue why it's showing like this.

Well.......prime 95 should not fail at 2.4Ghz..........
What was the memory speed at 2.4GHz...???
Maybe u r ram cannot take the speed!!!

Did u force the ram to 333MHz b'fore oc'ing??
coz when u increase the base clock i.e FSB all clocks will increase...and so the memory also will run at the speed of the FSB
if u set the FSB to 240MHZ the memory will run at 240MHz i.e 480MHz (DDR)..

See.....there is a base clock on the mobo.....which is the FSB....all clocks on the mobo derive their speed from the FSB...
That is the reason why we lock the AGP/PCI etc etc...
The ram also has a clock and that also increases with the FSB.....
there r no locks available for the ram
So what we do is push the ram to 266MHz or 333MHz (From the BIOS) and then start increasing the FSB.....so it gradully comes to 400MHz or near it....it is all trial and error....so will need time to do this...
Keep checking the memory speed @CPU-z or something.....
Trasncend Cheap chips keep the overclock under 10MHz so u r memory should not be crossing 410MHz i.e 205MHz.....
IF u have UCCC or Hynix D43 they can go till 250MHz i.e 500MHZ.....

Thanks for the info. My current oc result:

CPU core:2256.7
Multiplier :9
HTT: 250.7

Mem freq: 205.2
CAS# Latency : 2.5
RAS# to CAS# delay =3
RAS# Precharge =3
Tras=15
Trc=22

When I change the HTT to 255, I am unable to boot into windows and can't even go into BIOS. had to remove the mobo battery, reset the BIOS and try again. The above is the best stable config.
I did 6 hr prime95 torture test and was stable at a max. temperature of 51 degrees. Is there any changes to be done anywhere to push the CPU clock further.

Actually the 3000+ is a good overclocker.....
U can touch 2.6GHz-2.7GHz with the stock cooler......
If u go above 2.9GHz-3GHz u might need a 3rd party cooler!!

Also u u plan to OC the ram then u better losen the timings.

If the temps. r under control and u r system is unstable at 2.4GHz.-2.5GHz then u better......bring down the HTT to bring stability...

Hey Sam,

I finally OC'ed my proc to 2.42GHz. It would still go up but the temp is going to 52 while running prime95. For normal operation, CPU temp is 40-45 (even while playing games). What is the max temp to reach for venice core? Is it 53?

samrulez

Cyborg Agent
Well.....Venice can go upto 60 (stable).......
But try to keep under ~56......it should be ~56 at load not for prime95 but for games etc.etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The max temp reached by my CPU is 56 when running prime95 torture test. I played Halflife2, NFS U2, NFS MW and CPU temp max is 52. Gonna installed cool 'n' quite for better CPU life.

I thought of sharing sisoft sandra 2007 benchmark results. My OC'ed 3000+ rocks. It blew out 3200+ running at default speed:

I concer.

I have a64 939 3000+ on A8N SLI OCed to 2.6GHZ and max tem = 60degrees.
Stock cooling.

Passed PRIME and OCCT. have been using this for 3 months. The performace increase in phinominal.

my settings:
cpu_289x9 vid_1.475 htt_3x
mem_166@1.65V 3-7-3-3

i am planning to buy a new cooling solution to take it higher...any recommendations. something that is easily available in delhi(i live in dehradun and all stuff comes from delhi)
