After introducing the Phenom II family of 45nm CPUs at this year's CES, AMD will reportedly release the fastest version of the chip, the Phenom II X4 950 rated at 3.1GHz, sometime in the second quarter of 2009. The CPU would include 8MB of cache which supposedly could be split up to 6MB for L3 cache and 512KB of L2 for each core. The CPU will also support DDR3, 1333MHz memory and have a 4GHz HyperTransport interface speed, along with a 125W thermal envelope.

While the release of the X4 950 is not official, it is listed on a document that is said to have been leaked from AMD itself. It would be launched at or near the same time as the 3GHz Phenom II X4 945, which is expected to be a Socket AM3 version of the current Phenom II X4 940.

The leaked slide also reveals the company's slower Socket AM3 processors, topping out at 2.8GHz, will switch from 125W to 95W thermal envelopes. These will be compatible with Socket AM2+ motherboards as well as older DDR2 memory.
