AMD Ryzen+Vega CPUs unboxed(Benchmarked) in China

Will these new APUs start a low-end gaming revolution?

AMD's upcoming Ryzen+Vega CPUs are set to release on February 12th, offering a new integrated Vega graphics unit alongside increased clock speeds when compared to their Ryzen 1000-series counterparts.

These new Ryzen-based CPUs have been pictured in China, showcasing the two new CPUs and their included Wraith Stealth stock cooling solution. These images come from the Chinese forum Baidu, though the original post has been deleted, though thankfully the Reddit user riposte94 has archived these pictures on imgur.

With these new CPU models, AMD plans to offer even more value than they did with their original Ryzen products, launching these new models with similar pricing to their last-generation counterparts while also providing higher CPU clock speeds, improved precision boost technology and a moderately powerful integrated graphics unit.

AMD has also updated the memory controllers on these chips to support higher DRAM frequencies, addressing one of the biggest issues that Ryzen users faced at launch.

Looking at these new units, it is hard to see this release as anything other than the "Ryzen better value edition", offering improvements in almost every respect while delivering compelling price points.

With the current state of the GPU market, it is likely that some budget PC gaming newcomers may want to invest in one of these CPUs so that they can potentially game while they wait for GPU pricing to return to normal. These CPUs are expected to outperform Intel's integrated graphics with ease, making them the ideal option for a basic Minecraft gaming machine.

As we can see AMD's Ryzen+Vega CPUs will use the same IHS as their original Ryzen counterparts, which makes sense given the fact that both CPUs utilise the same AM4 socket. Most AM4 motherboards will require a BIOS update to support this new CPU, so please check on your motherboard vendor's website for a compatible BIOS update.

We can also see below that AMD has decided to make no major changes to their Wraith Stealth cooler design, which makes sense given the fact that these units are designed to suit a low-cost market.

It must be noted that while this product is listed as a Ryzen 2000-series product, these CPU/GPU combos are not using AMD's Ryzen 2nd Generation (Zen+) architecture, being built on 14nm and not 12nm. Even so, these units do benefit from Precision Boost 2 and enhanced memory performance/support, making it much easier to utilise high-speed memory on AMD's upcoming processors.

Both the CPU and GPU components of this APU are overclockable, allowing AMD users to push their integrated GPU's clock speeds to achieve some excellent gaming performance. While this performance is nowhere near as high as a dedicated gaming graphics card, it is much higher than anything that is offered by Intel.

1030 is almost twice as fast as Intel UHD630 so to compete against 1030 these vega processors need to be also twice faster than Intel UHD630 which I doubt.Only when they are released & benchmarked,it will be clear.

AMD Raven Ridge: First benchmarks for Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G

AMD Raven Ridge is rumored to launch Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G APUs by February 12th. However, in Asia, the first samples have shown up and have been tested with some benchmark results to show for.

The first published pictures are out as well, two models are delivered in an updated packaging, the focus is also on the integrated Vega graphics unit.

The technical data of the new APUs have already been confirmed by AMD. The first two models Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G will be the first CPU / APUs to receive official support of DDR4-2933 in dual-channel operation. Memory is an elementary link for AMD's APU to get the highest performance possible. For integrated graphics the memory cannot be fast enough as that system memory is used. The packaging is different with visually integrated a "AMD Radeon Vega Graphics" logo. The product names will be long alright:

    • AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with Radeon Vega 8 graphics
    • AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with Radeon Vega 11 graphics.
The Ryzen 3 2200G is expected to be priced (MSRP) at the USD $99.99 marker and Ryzen 5 2400G at $169.99; both APUs are now said to launch in the retail channel on the 12th of February.

AMD has announced the specifications of two of these APU's: the Ryzen 3 2200G and the Ryzen 5 2400G. As all AM4 platforms are currently being prepared with Raven Ridge BIOS updates and thus the Ryzen 2000 CPUs as well, the upcoming new processors would launch alongside new X470 motherboards. The motherboard manufacturers claim support speeds of up to 4000 MHz.

In addition to the new photos published in the Baidu community, there is also a first benchmark that shows all Raven Ridge both from notebook and from the desktop. The Ryzen 5 2400G as the fastest APU for the time being has four more threads, in addition to 11 CUs and even higher clock rates push the model to the lead. However, it is 70 percent more expensive. Further and even more meaningful tests besides 3DMark will likely leak in the coming days until February 12, the official release date.

not sure if it will be worth to miners

Raven ridge available in India now..

    Ryzen 3 2200G - Rs 8,838

AMD APU SERIES QUAD CORE PROCESSOR RYZEN 3 2200G - (RADEON VEGA 8 GRAPHICS, AM4 SOCKET, 6M CACHE, UP TO 3.7 GHz)

    Ryzen 5 2400G - 12,968

AMD APU SERIES QUAD CORE PROCESSOR RYZEN 5 2400G - (RADEON VEGA 11 GRAPHICS, AM4 SOCKET, 6M CACHE, UP TO 3.9 GHz)

hmm while 2400G is inline with expected price , 2200G seems a bit high , not sure if this is just early launch markup or is the demand for this CPU pushing up the price because of it's excellent value .. they are currently best sellers in USA on amazon..

it looks like 2200G will be available offline for around Rs 8500 in a few days when it is widely available if demand for it doesn't go crazy on this like G4560 and lead to shortages and price increase

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G Processors With Integrated Graphics Launched

The Ryzen 3 2200G is priced at Rs. 7,290 + GST in India

The Ryzen 5 2400G is priced at Rs. 10,990 + GST in India

AMD claims a huge performance lead in graphics compared to Intel

AMD has officially launched its first Ryzen desktop processors with integrated graphics. The new AMD Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G are first models in a new Ryzen 2xxx generation and feature integrated Radeon Vega graphics processors. AMD hopes to target entry-level users and is promising smooth gaming experiences at full-HD in the latest games, using low to medium settings.

While AMD's higher-end offerings offered significant performance and value benefits in many situations compared to Intel's equivalent processors, the low-end Ryzen models suffered because the need for a discrete graphics card pushed up the overall cost of a new PC. AMD is now replacing its most affordable Ryzen 3 1200 CPU with the new Ryzen 3 2400G, which is officially priced at Rs. 7,290 (plus 18 percent GST) in India. The Ryzen 5 2400G replaces the Ryzen 5 1400 in AMD's product stack, and is priced at Rs. 10,990 (plus 18 percent GST).

The Ryzen 3 2200G has four physical cores without multi-threading, a base speed of 3.5GHz, and a boost speed of 3.7GHz. The Ryzen 3 2400G also has four cores but multi-threading is enabled allowing for eight threads. The base speed is 3.6GHz while the boost speed is 3.9GHz. In terms of graphics capabilities, the Ryzen 3 2200G has eight Radeon Vega compute units running at 1100MHz, while the Ryzen 5 2400G has eleven running at 1250MHz. Both models have 4MB of L3 cache, and officially support up to DDR4-2933 RAM. Both also have 65W TDP ratings and come with AMD's Wraith Stealth cooler in the box. As with all Ryzen CPUs, these new models are unlocked and overclockable.

Both new processors, codenamed 'Raven Ridge', use the same 300-series motherboards that have served for existing Ryzen 3, 5, and 7 CPUs. Video output is supported because these boards were designed to be compatible with AMD's previous-generation APUs with integrated graphics. Recently purchased motherboards should be ready to work with these CPUs, whereas older ones will require only a BIOS update. AMD has also confirmed that all Ryzen CPUs will be compatible with 400-series motherboards which will launch later this year along with updated Ryzen 2xxx 'Pinnacle Ridge' CPUs.

The company says that it has been able to leverage improvements to its foundry partner's 14nm fabrication technology, allowing it to drive higher frequencies within the same voltage and temperature limits. There have also been improvements to the speed and latency of the cache memory, which should lead to better responsiveness in certain applications. The Precision Boost feature has also been updated to version 2.0. This uses AMD's multiple sensors embedded through the Infinity Fabric interconnect of each CPU to adjust frequency dynamically as workloads change. The company now says that Precision Boost 2 is even more fine-grained and allows more cores to run at higher speeds more often.

With the Ryzen 3 2400, users should be able to build a low-cost PC and still play games at medium to low settings. AMD claims 52fps in Battlefield One, 56fps in Overwatch (low), 45fps in Rocket League, 87fps in Skyrim, and 74fps in DOTA 2. For the Ryzen 5 2400G, AMD says users can expect 52fps in Battlefield One, 49fps in Overwatch (medium), 49fps in Rocket League, 96fps in Skyrim, and 31fps in The Witcher 3. AMD also points out that these new processors support AMD's Radeon technology including Freesync.

With the Ryzen 5 2400G in particular, AMD claims performance equal to that of an Intel Core i5-8400 CPU with an Nvidia GeForce GT 1030 GPU, at a much lower price. Graphics performance is purportedly 156 percent better than Intel's integrated GPU on its own, and general system performance is also 21 percent better, according to AMD. The company emphasises performance in multi-threaded applications in comparisons against Intel, because its advantage is being able to offer more cores and threads per CPU.

The new Ryzen 3 and 5 processors with integrated graphics will be sold in retail boxes with silver strips running across the top to differentiate them from standard CPUs. In contrast to Intel's strategy of integrating graphics processors into all its mainstream CPUs, there will be no Ryzen 7 models with integrated graphics, at least in this generation. AMD believes that those in the market for high-end CPUs will want a powerful graphics card anyway.

AMD has also announced a new cooler, the Wraith Prism, which improves upon the Wraith Max with individually addressable RGB LEDs and a design that works better on smaller motherboards. Finally, AMD is announcing a partnership with enterprise storage vendor Enmotus, to support the Enmotus Fuzedrive which allows users to create a multi-tier storage subsystem including spinning hard drives, fast SSDs and RAM caches, similar to Intel's Optane strategy

I'm definitely predicting a price increase even if not used by miners. Anyone looking to buy these should buy immediately.

Is the 4,000+ premium for 2400G worth paying over 2200G for moderate user/light gamer?

Only if you want somewhat 1030 level of gaming & you will also really need the 3200 ram.For moderate usage other than gaming even 2200G is more than enough.

I like the option of being able to play. I found a 3200 speed 8 GB RAM for 8 K on MD Computers.

Is there a 50% improvement in performance from 2200G to 2400G? The price is almost 50% more for the higher version.

Now that I have seen some benchmarks the difference is quite less between 2200G & 2400G IG performance(check gaming benchmark pages in review below).

Correct. That is what is bothering me now. For that kind price difference I was expecting a significant improvement in performance.

If you can wait a few months/a year then wait for Spectre free new design generation processors from Intel & AMD.If you can't then get 2200G now & hopefully in next 3-4 months the crypto currency mining craze should subside & pick a 1050/2xxx series card.
