Hi

I have read an article hereUnlock AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE /* with* / Asus M4A785TD-V EVO - AMD - Overclocking
about turning an amd phenom 2cores to 4 cores otherwise unlocking the cores

i am planning to upgrade my system

my budget is limited to 15000/-

so i would like to purchase AMD Phenom II X2 550
as my processor
which is not black edition
so i have two questions

  1. Does the non black edition 550 support core unlocking
  2. Please suggest me a decent future proof motherboard

By future proof i mean i will be upgrading phenom core 2 to core 6 in future and mother board should be able to handle DDR5 graphic card

one more question
i have intex 450watts SMPS will this be good for that mother board and also for 1 GB DDR3 graphic card for time being

Re: Advanced Clock Calibration?

1st of all Phenom II 550 is not available. 2ndly the core unlocking was very much probable with the first couple of batchs of dual core phenoms. Right now AMD is using Laser cut to physically remove the locked cores. So the chance of getting an old stock product is pretty low now a days. Even if you're able to unlock it, it is highly possible that all the four cores will be functional due to stability issues. Then you have to mannually switch on and off each of the cores to turn off the faulty core(s) from BIOS.
So, get a quad core Athlon II X4 640 around 4.8K or Phenom II X4 840 (it is a rebranded Athlon II) @ 5K.

I had that proc. before, pretty decent performer.
It supports core unlocking. but you need a mobo which has support for it to go with it.
I would suggest you get a Black Edition processor because it will help you to over-clock farther and easily with help of multiplier. Also get a 965 or 970 BE since they are very cheap as well. you may as well try the 960T which has a chance to unlock to a 6-core processor!

As for the Motherboard, I suggest you get an AM3+ Mobo so you can upgrade the processor to FX series or other AM3+ Processors that may come later...

As far as unlocking Phenom II X2 to X4 is concerned, it doesn't happen now. So, my recommendation goes to Athlon II X4 645 and Phenom II X4 840. Both are around 5,200 and less.

Sites to buy online? SMCInternational.in , TheITWares.com , TheITDepot.com , Flipkart and PrimeABGB.com.
