Hi,
I currently have an AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice on an ASUS A8N-e motherboard with 1 GB of DDR400 Transcend RAM (512 x 2).
Since the 939 socket was stopped months ago, I would like to know:
1. whether buying an Opteron 180 Denmark would be a logical choice?
2. would it work on the A8N-e?
3. would I need a BIOS update?
4. or any other processor (like the Athlon 64 FX-60) be a logical choice?
Also, I would mainly be using the system for graphic intensive tasks and gaming. Would an Opteron (server processor) run inferior to a FX-60 (desktop processor)?
Also, unlike most server processors, the Opteron 180 does not require licensed RAM. So I guess I will be able to use it with my present RAM?
Thanks!
PS - correct me if I'm wrong about certain things, I've surely _become_ a n00b about these now..
PPS - please don't ask me about my budget or anything. Answering to the point would be _very_ appreciated!
