This is my config for an AMD based PC:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ AM2 Socket
ASUS M2A-VM Motherboard
Kingston DDR2 1 GB 667 Mhz X 2
Seagate Sata2 250 GB
Zebronics Cabinet with 500W SMPS
Samsung DVD +/- RW
Creative Inspire 2.1
Samsung CRT 17'' Flat 798MB

As for the graphics card I'm waiting for the prices to drop.
So is this a good config? Will it work? Or can I improve it in any way?
Thanks in advance!

Is there a noticable difference in the performance between 4800+ and 5000+?
yup there is..but u could go with 4800+ if price is a problem

to be sure that u get 65 nm cpus & not 90nm( 65nm is better than 90)

check the OPN (Tray) no. for 4800+ it should be ADO4800IAA5DD
& its OPN_PIB number is ADO4800DDBOX

check the OPN (Tray) no. for 5000+ it should be ADO5000IAA5DD
& its OPN_PIB number is ADO5000DDBOX

OPN (Tray) & OPN_PIB numbers r present on the cpu box

so now u have all the info..go get ur new pc:p

if you dont buy a lcd monitor and save money then you can buy a amd 6000+ processor it will be much better

nvidia

then he can go for the 6000+ processor which is the best one on the amd platform it costs around 12000 but gives high performance for the price on offer

I'm on a strict budget....
Is the 4800+ not a good processor? I'm looking for good value for money. I don't mind spending some more on a 5200+ proccy if 4800+ is not good. Also I noticed that 4800+ has 1 MB L2 cache while 5200+ has 2 MB L2 cache. Does this matter much?

i also bought my pc 20 days back...i had the same dilema as urs...infact i had even ordered my dealer to give me amd x2 5200 and i told the dealer that the purchase would be subject to 65w tdp and not 89w tdp ...but as the 65w tdp was not available i had to go for amd x2 4800 as buying x2 5000 doesnt make any sense as its only 100 mhz faster and the price difference is abt 1000 rs....

regarding your l2 cache memory factor ....it doesnt matter much in amd units as regards to its architecture...so my advice is that if u find the amd x2 5200 with 65w tdp then go for that or else stick to the amd x2 4800 which has 65nm and 65w tdp...ask me if u still have any doubt

yup l2 cache memory does not matter..amd 's architecture is different compared to intel...& personally i value extra 100 mhz speed cuz it matters in the future...u have to pay only 700 extra...so i would go for 5000+ & 5200+ is not available as a 65nm(65 watt tdp) 5000+ is the best u get..

amd x2 5200 model is 90nm but has 89w tdp and 65w tdp ...i was talking about the availability of the 65w tdp processor...and 100 mhz will have no effect watsover with future...believe me it will no help a single bit...and i suppose the difference too is abt a 1000rs which can be used to by a better smps or ram accordingly...

thats y i m suggesting go for amd x2 5200 (if u get 65w tdp) or else amd x2 4800....b.t.w amd prices are gonna fall by 20% in july first week
