CPU:

For gaming n multimedia applications, both AMD n Intel are good. AMD is a good optionn heating is no longer a problem. It was with the older computers.
There are motherboards for AMD with good onboard graphics while some dont have onboard graphics.
I think a motherboard with a separate graphics card will be a good option.

Hardisk:

SATA will be a good option to go for,but don invest on hardisk if its not fitting in the budget. Rather send on Graphixs card.

Speakers:

I think Creative will be a good option.

As i see, most ppl have already voted for AMD (which i was gonna vote for anyway, ill give u a brief about the SATA Hard Disk. SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. The main benifit of SATA is that it has a transfer rate of 150 MB/s as compared to 133 MB/s for PATA or Parallel ATA (non-SATA as u referred). Anyway, there is not *much* difference in the price of SATA and PATA. So i would suggest u go for SATA.

And yeah, AMD Rocks!

@virgin: If you are gonna play any computer games, buying a separate video card is a must. With your budget, you sure can afford to invest in a good video card. I'd recommend Sapphire X300SE w/256MB - 128bit. Also, if you go for SATA hard drives, buy one with NCQ support. NCQ (Native Command Queuing) enabled HDD increases the overall performance of a PC so without going in any further details, just know that it's a must. kalpik has already cleared your SATA-PATA doubts so i am not gonna repeat the same stuff.

As for the CPU, AMD64 is good but so is the Intel 6xx series which has EM64T i.e. 64bit support. If you go for AMD, remember to buy a socket 939 mobo coz that'll leave you with some options to upgrade in the near future. Don't buy a socket 754 mobo.

That, i think, pretty much covers all your questions.

Peace.
