How far is this statement correct ? *s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj44/visio159/Unismilies/78.png

1. For Windows XP 32-bit maximum RAM one can install is not more than 3.5 GB
2. For 64-bit OS maximum RAM can go above 4GB
3. The same applies for 32bit & 64bit Vista ?
4. What about Linux OS ???

1. For Windows XP 32-bit maximum RAM one can install is not more than 3.5 GB

Wrong !!!!

2. For 64-bit OS maximum RAM can go above 4GB

Wrong !!!

3. The same applies for 32bit & 64bit Vista ?

Yes, memory statements are same with Windows XP / Vista

4. What about Linux OS ???

What about them ??

Few facts,

x86 platform by default would support 3 GB of RAM, where as you may use PAE (Physical Address Extension) switch to make them support upto 64 GB (Win 2k3) of system memory !!!

However in x86 platform though /PAE would allow more than 3 GB of system RAM but applications would not be able to use more than 3 GB per process, hence one may need to use /3GB switch also :)

x64 platform by default would support upto 128 GB of system RAM in case of Windows XP / Vista where as 2 TB in case of server platform :)

There would be no visual difference between a x64 and x86 edition of Windows, only the background core is different

Point Blanc
also 32 bit vista has no issues identifying 4 GB RAM.
Its just XP where u get the problem and microsoft gave the solution.
Linux works on common specifications. And they get updated much more than XP or Vista, these things managed by kernel updates. All new Linux distros are free from any such glitches
