The advertised contrast ratio in the television commercials are dynamic AFAIK. How can we find what is the static contrast ratio (if there is any term by that name)?
Also what is the appropriate value of the same because i feel that these companies are just taking the customer for a ride by displaying these very high contrast ratios (10000:1, 50000:1 etc)

Since all of them are displaying dynamic contrast ratios only, you can just compare them. Just be careful that if some rare television advertises very low rations, it must be the actual contrast ratios.
A few months back, when LG launched the time machine television with an 80 GB HDD, it advertised the contrast ratios as 1600:1 and everybody was just saying that it is much lower than others are offering. So be careful.
