9400gt not detected in system!!!

i brought a 9400gt from a friend of mine for some work. i installed the card in pci x16 slot. when i start the system the GPU fan runs but the card is not detected in my computer. please help what to do.

PS: my mobo is Intel D945GCNL & PSU is local one of 500w.

Check whether you've connected the VGA / DVI cable to GPU and not mobo.

if that's not the case, do you get any display on the monitor and if error then wat's it ?

when i connect vga cable(the one connected to monitor) to the GPU, the monitor just turns off, no signal or anything. but when i connect it back to mobo, it starts giving the display again.

I'm afraid that your GPU already needs a RMA or replacement.

If you bought it in working condition, then Local PSU is culprit. Probably your GPU Ram modules have developed fault which can't be repaired in local shops.

faulty card/motherboard's pci-e slot.
Cross-check it in some other computer to be sure of it.

card is working fine... my friend was using it till i took it... it may be psu coz i used a hd4670 few dayz back n it was working fine, so no mobo fault then... but i thought local psu can handle 9400gt...

Yes, check it on other PC, if it works, then probably mobo needs replacement.. 50-50 chance.

finally got it running.... the pcie slot needed some cleaning... took out the card.. cleaned the slot and after that the card worked.
