can anyone tell me briefly about the sitemap? why do we use sitemap for website? what are the advantages of sitemap?

I run my blog on wordpress. I decided to use Google sitemap for better indexing therefore downloaded the Google sitemap pluigin from *www.arnebrachhold.de/2005/06/05/google-sitemaps-generator-v2-final which automatically generates the sitemap.xml from the blog structure. So far so Good...

Can I know a good tutorial on creating a good Sitemap for my site. Please guide me from how....to....to end...
